An extended vocabulary is incredibly important for both the English and Verbal Reasoning papers, and we encourage all of our Hub students to bring their Vocabulary Book along to every weekly session, alongside their Essential Learning Pack.

The Vocabulary Book is included as part of every Essential Learning Pack. 

As we encounter new and unfamiliar words during our sessions, children can record and explore them in their book, creating their own personal bank of vocabulary to revisit throughout the year. They can also take their book into school and use it at home, adding new vocabulary whenever they come across an interesting or unfamiliar word.

We’ve deliberately made the book something children write in by hand. Writing information down encourages children to actively process what they’re learning, rather than simply reading and recognising it, helping to make new vocabulary more memorable.

It’s a simple but really valuable tool that children can build on throughout their 11+ journey — creating a vocabulary bank that is uniquely theirs.
